It does not matter what business you have, how unsexy you think it is, a clever marketing strategy will make you stand out. Alternatively, it doesn’t matter how brilliant the product is, if you are not showing it off in the right way, you will be out of pocket. You need to allocate some time and resources into developing an effective marking strategy. Here are some ideas to get you thinking about your marketing campaign.

Know your audience

Without knowing who your target market is, you are not going to be able to come up with a very focused marketing strategy. Spend a little bit of time considering the types of people you serve. Their gender, age range, what are they interested in? Think about how they communicate and the language they use in which to do so. You should compile a list of keywords and phrases you could use to engage with them. Everyone is so different, but if someone is interested in your product, there will be similarities between them. If you are in the boating industry, for example, and want to sell on Ranger shackles, you know they are interested in the sea and boats. You know what kind of people they are, so ideas around content for a market program begin to shine through.

Website

Using the knowledge you have gained from your in-depth analysis of the types of people you are catering for, you will have a rough idea of the information they will type on the search engine. You need to optimize your website using the keywords and phrases you have already worked out on every page. Not every page has to have every keyword, but a few keywords have to be on every page. This is known as SEO (search engine optimization). You need to ensure that your website answers all your customers’ questions, so think about having some content writers help you with this. The site has to be in a logical structure and should enable the customer to either purchase online or give contact details very obviously on the home screen.

Social media

Without a social media presence, you are going to fall behind your competitors. You need a fully coherent strategy cross platforms where content matches as this will help your businesses look professional and reliable. It is free advertising, so there is no reason not to do it. However, it can take time to come up with decent content. The good news is, you only need to post twice a day, not a whole stream of content all the time. This is where you can get creative. Go out with your camera and take some moody shots of your stock. Come up with some excellent one-liners, let your humorous side show. Open up comments to engage with your audience. Social media gives you a unique chance to get hands-on with the customer in a less formal way. It is up to you to grab the proverbial bull by the horns.
