Winter is nipping at our heels, and it’s the season when sniffles and coughs abound. But hey, it doesn’t have to be a time of year where you feel like your office has turned into a season finale of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. As a good boss, you can help your staff to stay as healthy as possible so the office does not end up feeling like an unproductive ghost town. Here’s how:
Free Flu Shots for All
If you can afford it, as a business, it makes sense for you to pay to have all of your employees vaccinated against the flu virus. When flu hits, it hits hard, which means that anyone who has succumbed to it will likely need a week in bed at the very least. Not only that, but it is highly contagious, so it is likely to sweep through your office faster than you can blink, unless, of course, everyone is vaccinated. Make it happen and you won’t regret it.
Glove Love
Now, I know you might be thinking, “Gloves? Really? Is that the best we’ve got?” But, hear me out. It’s a simple gesture that says, “Hey, we care about your little fingers freezing off when you’re waiting for that train or bus.” Hand out stylish yet practical ladies and mens thermal gloves to your staff this winter and you will not regret it. Trust us; they’ll appreciate it more than you’d think, especially when that cold wind starts blowing, and you’ll appreciate it when they are less prone to colds and viruses as a result.
Hydration Station
Winter air can be cruelly dry, leading to dehydration which can cause other health issues, like migraines, to rear their heads (see what I did there?) For this reason, it would be a good idea to set up hydration stations around the office with water, herbal teas, and perhaps even a pot of hot cocoa for those particularly chilly days. Being well-hydrated is a small but vital step in keeping illnesses at bay. It’s also a really nice gesture that your employees will value, which is always a bonus, too!
Soup-er Lunches
Why not host a soup day once a week where you provide a variety of hearty and healthy soups for everyone? It’s a warm treat that packs in nutrition and the much-needed warmth to fend off the winter blues because keeping everyone in a good mood during winter will help to keep your business productive in winter, too.
Keep it Clean
It’s always a good idea to increase the frequency of office cleanings during the winter where there are more bugs going around. More cleanings mean fewer germs, after all. Also, you will want to make sure to stock up on those hand sanitizers and keep them at arm’s reach, everywhere.
So there you have it – as you can see, it’s actually pretty easy to help your staff stay as healthy as possible in what is an unhealthy season for many, and doing so will not only be good for them, but also for your small business and your productivity levels, so what are you waiting for?
